Proud to be supporting the RSPB through 2021 and beyond

During 2021, holidaycottages.co.uk, provided support for several important RSPB restoration projects because we feel passionately about protecting woodland habitats and the natural environment.

We wanted to play our part in supporting the RSPB to preserve them for future generations.

Over the course of the last year, we made a donation to the RSPB to assist in the restoration of 1 square metre of woodland for each booking our customers made with us. The funds raised help to support projects based at two woodland sites in the UK: RSPB Haweswater, in the Lake District, and RSPB Glenborrodale, in Scotland. Over these two sites, we have been able to help to restore and protect a combined 200,000m2 of woodland which in turn, helped to capture up to 3,000 tonnes of carbon which is equivalent to the yearly energy emissions of at least 500 UK homes.

Supporting the RSPB in 2022

Throughout 2022 we are continuing our support at RSPB Glenborrodale alongside two other sites:, RSPB Gwenffrwd Dinas in Wales, and RSPB Franchises Lodge in the New Forest.

RSPB Glenborrodale

Our support at RSPB Glenborrodale will help secure the future of 70,000 m2 of rare temperate rainforest habitat and woodlands. Restoration work and protection ensures the reserve’s longevity by eradicating pollution and the elimination of invasive species that have detrimental effects on the trees, plants, insects, and animals.

RSPB Gwenffrwd Dinas

Our support at RSPB Gwenffrwd Dinas will focus on the improvement of these oak woodlands. Projects include fence installation, tree planting and the introduction of more pine marten boxes, as well as the management of grazing and protection against invasive species.

RSPB Franchises Lodge

Deep in the New Forest, this woodland will receive support towards the clearance of non-native species and the regeneration of deciduous and conifer trees on the reserve. The site is also home to a residential educational facility called Cameron’s Cottage.

The future

We have pledged to continue our partnership with the RSPB, with the aim to preserve fragile habitats and to reduce their carbon footprint. For more information on the RSPB’s projects, visit their website.
